Welcome to iDevelop, a weekly eNewsletter providing faculty with information about professional development opportunities at NSCC.  The intent of this eNewsletter is to spotlight the various professional development events for faculty in one convenient location as well as share best practices, resources and tips related to the teaching practice.

20 Minute Online Professional Development: What Does Copyright Ownership Mean to Me?
The Monday Morning Mentor series will be available over the fall semester to bring you professional development in twenty minute snippets.  The topic for the week of October 20th is What Does Copyright Ownership Mean to Me?

Thursday, October 23rd, 11:30am and 7:30pm at Monserrat College of Art: FREE Public Artist Talk and Performance of LOOSE

    Please join D’hana Perry for a Public Artist Talk on Thursday, October 23rd at 11:30am and a live performance of LOOSE on Thursday, October 23rd at 7:30pm in the 301 Gallery on 301 Cabot St.  NYC artist D'hana Perry's LOOSE is a reconceptualization of what a "documentary" can be, and an autobiographical examination of how gender expression and racial identity affect each other when we navigate public space.  It explores a concept of remixing as: 1) a process of mental and physical image appropriation and 2) a mode of existence and survival, which turn everyday interactions into a creative act. “I've been using a flipped classroom format to teach source integration and citation in my CMP1 class.  Over the course of several class meetings and a week or two, students watch [videos I provide them].  I also send them ppt's for their notes.  To ensure accountability for the material, I then give students a very fast quiz at the beginning of class.

Source integration is pretty complex: in addition to the mechanical stuff (MLA citation, format), the overall goal when integrating sources is to develop ideas appropriate and insightful for academic settings.  Using a flipped classroom format helps me cover the basics more efficiently.  When I cover the basics more efficiently, that gives me more class time to focus on practice, content, and higher-level thinking strategies.  The flipped classroom format has cleared up a lot of class time--probably a week, maybe more--so I can focus on enriched content.”
