• Intersection of EDI and Open (CCCOER webinar) on Wednesday, November 10 at 3:00pm. “How do the goals and issues of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion intersect with Open Education? We will explore how these impact each other and how we might improve our efforts in each to enhance the other. • Education as Relating: A Virtual Conference. The Taos Institute will be hosting a virtual conference from November 4th to November 6th on “Education as Relating: Shedding the Industrial Model - Sharing Resources and Practices - Shaping the Future of Education”. This virtual workshop on Friday, October 8th at 11:00am is being sponsored by NSCC’s The RAP Experience. “How we think about our ability to confidently try new things and keep going when they get hard can set us for success or serve as a barrier to success. For many of us, we must work to have a growth mindset while also navigating social structures and systems that send deficit-oriented messages about who we are and the communities we come from. • MA Community of Teaching Symposium. Faculty representatives from Massachusetts Community Colleges invite you to join them in a symposium of teaching and learning. This symposium, Teaching through an Equity Lens: What We Learned on our Summer Vacation, will take place on October 15th from 8:30am to 1:00pm. “Facilitated by the Center for Urban Education, these faculty engaged in thoughtful, reflective analysis of their teaching practice through an equity lens to improve the classroom experience for their students. • The Growth Mindset. This virtual workshop on Friday, October 8th at 11:00am is being sponsored by NSCC’s The RAP Experience. “How we think about our ability to confidently try new things and keep going when they get hard can set us for success or serve as a barrier to success. For many of us, we must work to have a growth mindset while also navigating social structures and systems that send deficit-oriented messages about who we are and the communities we come from. Join this session to learn more about growth mindsets and identify ways to critically assess how the environments we participate in influence our mindsets.” Please see the flyer sent in the iDevelop email for as well as registration link. 
• Universal Design for Learning in the Synchronous Online Classroom (NERCOMP Online Workshop) on Tuesday, October 12 and Wednesday, October 13 from 10:30am - 12:00pm. “Want to create a single course that adapts to the broadest range of learners? Learning and utilizing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) - a framework that meets students where they are - will allow you to adapt a single course to the widest possible range of learners. This highly applicable approach to the online learning environment provides maximum flexibility while letting course designers build a single course. This workshop is focused on beginners and will use a case study of a UDL-informed course taught live online to explore how UDL principles improve both learner outcomes and instructor satisfaction in the synchronous online environment. • 2021 Assessment Institute. The 2021 Assessment Institute, https://assessmentinstitute.iupui.edu/index.html, will be held virtually from October 24th to October 27th. The institute is highly regarded in the field of assessment and offers the opportunity for higher education faculty, staff, and administrators to share knowledge and learn new skills regarding student outcomes assessment. If you are interested in further developing your assessment skills, this is an excellent opportunity! To learn more, please visit the institute’s presentation topics. A sampling of presentation tracks includes: Assessment in Online Courses and Programs; Assessment Methods; Community Colleges; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; STEM Education; and Student Partnership and Engagement in Assessment. • Anti-Racist Pedagogy in Community-Engaged Teaching (virtual symposium). “On September 20 from 11:00am to 4:00pm, the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education and Campus Compact will host this event bringing together scholars from across the nation to explore how we can embed anti-racist teaching practices and course design in courses connecting our students with our larger communities. A centerpiece of the symposium is the work of a consortium of faculty from four Massachusetts universities who collaborated to articulate 21 principles of anti-racist pedagogy in community-engaged courses and then drew on these principles in a series of faculty development workshops across their four campuses. • Combatting AAPI Racism and Increasing AAPI Leadership in Higher Education (INSIGHT into Diversity webinar series) on Monday, September 20th at 1:00pm EST. “As colleges prepare to fully reopen this fall, campus leadership needs to be prepared to confront potential acts of hate and violence against the AAPI community, including students and employees. AAPI people have commonly been named “the model minority” in the United States, a persistent myth that alienates them from other communities of color and beyond. Our panelists will share strategies for addressing racism towards the AAPI community as we have all witnessed across the country in recent months. In addition, AAPI people remain underrepresented in leadership positions at U.S. colleges and universities, according to the American Council on Education. Our panelists include AAPI professionals whose careers have taken them to top positions in higher education. Preparing for Fall 2021 Courses in Blackboard Learn

As you start to think about your fall courses, we wanted to share with you the following important information that will help you prepare your course site in Blackboard Learn.

Copying a Course
To copy a previous course site into a new one in Blackboard Learn:

1. Go into the course site that has the content to copy. In the Control Panel, expand the "Packages and Utilities" section and click Course Copy.
2. On the next screen, in the “Select Copy Type” section, make sure Copy Course Materials into Existing Course is selected in the drop down menu.
3. Now, in the “Select Copy Options” section, next to the Destination Course ID field, click Browse. Then, find and select the Course ID for the new course (the one you want to put the content into). Click Submit.
4. Select the Course Materials that you want to copy over to the new course. Usually, Select All is the best choice, although you might not want to copy announcements.
1. If Select All is not used, make sure to include Grade Center Columns and Settings if Assignments and/or Tests are being copied.
2. Also, under Discussion Board, select Include only the forums, with no starter posts if threads are not created by the instructor for students to respond to. If not, all student threads will copy over as anonymous and they will need to be deleted.
5. In the “File Attachments” section, keep the default settings.
6. Click Submit.

Please note: When a previous course site is copied over into a new course site, any new or changed content areas will be added to the bottom of the course menu.

Make Your Course Available
All Blackboard Learn course sites are unavailable to students by default. Here are the directions for making the course site available to your students. If you are in your course site, you should see a lock icon up at the top of your course site (to the left of Edit Mode). If you click that lock icon, it will make the course available to students. 

If you do not see the lock icon, here are the directions for making it available to your students.

To open your course:

1. Go into the course site.
2. On the Control Panel, expand the "Customization" section and click Properties.
3. On the next screen, in the "Set Availability" section, select Yes to make the course available.
4. Click Submit.

20 Minute Mentor - Online Faculty Professional Development - Fall 2021 Schedule

The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation (CTLI) offers faculty a professional development series from Magna Publications, called the 20 Minute Mentor. The goal of the 20 Minute Mentor series is to offer faculty practical professional development opportunities in twenty minute snippets that can be accessed from anywhere and at any time during the given week. Session topics cover the areas of student engagement, teaching and learning, teaching online, assessment and learning goals, and classroom management.

Information on how to access the 20 Minute Mentor sessions is available each week in the Bulletin and the iDevelop e-newsletter.

New video presentations (with supplementary materials) go live at 10:00am each Monday morning and are only accessible through Sunday.

In June, the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation (CTLI) will be holding a virtual Faculty Technology Summer Institute. he Summer Institute's theme is "Humanizing the Online Learning Experience" and the sessions will focus on faculty professional development around fostering presence in virtual classrooms as well as engaging students in a collaborative community through student to student interaction, student to instructor interaction, and student to content interaction. The Summer Institute will take place on Tuesday, June 15th through Thursday, June 17th from 9:30am-12:00pm. Space is limited to 45 faculty and is first come first served so please RSVP by Friday, May 28th. Faculty who attend the Summer Institute will receive a small stipend. • Dis/Misinformation: Perspectives and Pedagogies for Educators in the Post-Truth Era. Harvard University's Global Studies Outreach Center is offering their 9th annual free summer educator workshop virtually over a two-week period: July 26 - August 6. Participants can join for all or some of the sessions offered over those two weeks. More information is available at https://globalstudiesoutreach.harvard.edu/.

• 2021 Northeast OER Summit. Registration is now open for the 4th Annual Northeast OER Summit. The Summit is free and will take place Monday, May 24 – Wednesday, May 26, 2021 virtually through University of Massachusetts Amherst Conference Services. • MCO Conference on eLearning. The 16th Annual Conference on eLearning by Mass Colleges Online (MCO) will take place on June 2nd as a virtual event between 8:00am – 1:00pm. The MCO Conference is a great opportunity to explore and discuss how colleges and universities in Massachusetts are designing and delivering online and hybrid education.
