20 Minute Online Professional Development
The Monday Morning Mentor series will be available over the fall semester to bring you professional development in twenty minute snippets. The topic for the week of October 22nd is How Can I Get Students to Engage with Course Content Before Class? The presentation is available Monday at 10:00am and is accessible through Sunday of that week. Other Professional Development Opportunities
  • AMCOA Regional Assignment Design Charrette. Join your colleagues from around the region for an Assignment Design Charette right here at NSCC on Friday, November 2nd from 9:00am to 12:00pm (lunch will be provided following the event from 12:00pm to 1:00pm) in Danvers DS106B. This is in part designed to facilitate attendees’ participation in the VALUE Institute (formerly known as the Multi-State Collaborative). NSCC has ten spots available for faculty to attend the workshop. If you are interested, please RSVP to Cate Kaluzny by Monday, October 22nd.
  • New Library Catalog Information Sessions. Come learn about the new Library Catalog! The NSCC Library joined a new network and launched a new catalog over the summer.  Want to learn how to use it?  We can show you how to find and request books and other items that the NSCC Library doesn’t have.  Stop by one of our quick info sessions to find out more. In Danvers, the sessions will take place in the library instruction lab, DB241, on Tuesday, October 23rd at 10:00am. In Lynn, the sessions will take place in the library classroom, LW181, on Wednesday, October 24th at 2:00pm.

  • 41st Forum on Tolerance – Power, Privilege, and Progress: Awareness to Action. This year, the Forum on Tolerance will be Friday, October 19th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm and Saturday, October 20th from 9:00am to 5:00pm and will take place on the Lynn campus. The Friday night event is free while the Saturday event has a registration fee. More information is available at http://www.northshore.edu/tolerance. Registration for the event is required.

  • SAR Team Training Sessions. The College's Student at Risk (SAR) team will be providing training sessions on the role of the SAR team and supports that are available for students at risk. The training will include: Introduction of SAR Team members, role of SAR Team, strategies to de-escalate student situations,   NSCC support system, when and how to make referrals, and review of Student Suicide and Suicidal Ideation Protocol. This training presentation was offered to faculty as part of Faculty Professional Day on September 5th but, if you were unable to attend one of the sessions, you are welcome to attend on Friday, October 12th from 10:30am-12:00pm in the Lynn Gym.   • Improving Student Engagement and Retention Through the Community of Inquiry [Blackboard Innovative Teaching Series] on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 1:00pm-2:00pm EST. “Student engagement and retention continues to be central as a success measure in higher education. The Community of Inquiry (COI) Framework provides an opportunity to focus on learning as a result of interaction of social, cognitive, and teaching presence. Through purposeful instructional design, the students' educational experience can lead to higher satisfaction and better learning through active engagement and the application of COI. The "Midterm Election Teach-In" is Monday, October 1st thru Friday, October 5th. The Library has compiled a Libguide, available at https://library.northshore.edu/Election2018, to serve as a resource for those of you who would like to include the 2018 Midterm Elections into your classroom.
