20 Minute Online Professional Development
The Monday Morning Mentor series will be available over the spring semester to bring you professional development in twenty minute snippets. The topic for the week of April 22nd is Copyright Crash Course: How Can I Stay on the Right Side of the Law? The presentation is available Monday at 10:00am and is accessible through Sunday of that week.   • North Shore Community College’s 2019 Visiting Writer. Oompa is a nationally acclaimed, Roxbury-born slam poet, hip-hop artist, and self-described “hood, queer, black, womynist, orphan, sister, friend, and teacher.”  She is the winner of the 2017 Women of the World Poetry Slam and a finalist at the 2017 National Poetry Slam.  She has been featured in magazines such as The Huffington Post and DigBoston and has appeared at colleges such as Boston University, Boston College, and the Berklee College of Music. The event will take place on Monday, April 22nd Tuesday, April 24th, at 9:30am and 11:00am in the President’s Board Room (LS328) on the Lynn Campus and on Tuesday, April 23rd at 9:30am and 11:00am in the Library on the Danvers Campus.   • 42nd Forum on Tolerance: The Intersection Between Human and Animal Rights. This year, the Forum on Tolerance will be Wednesday, April 24th and Thursday, April 25th. The April 24th event will take place in Danvers, DS106B, from 11:00am to 1:45pm and the April 25th event will take place in the Lynn Gym from 8:30am to 12:30pm.   • Annual Law Day Lecture. This year’s Law Day topic is Victims Rights and Restorative Justice. The keynote speaker is Karen Baratta from Concord Prison Outreach, the oldest volunteer-driven prison education program in Massachusetts. The lecture will be held on Thursday, April 18th from 7:30am to 9:00am in the Danvers Campus Math & Science Building, DS119 and will be teleconferenced to the Lynn Campus Gym. Other Professional Development Opportunities 
  • Massachusetts Department of Higher Education Assessment Conference. NSCC faculty are invited to attend the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education Assessment Conference on Friday, April 19th from 8:00am to 3:00pm in Marlborough, MA. The conference will take place at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel & Trade Center at 181 Boston Post Road West, Marlborough, MA. The featured speaker is Dr. Gianina Baker, Assistant Director, National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment (NILOA) on the Intersectionality of Equity and Assessment. And the program will include expert workshop presenters from colleges and universities focused on two tracks: new assessment approaches and building assessment skills.
