iDevelop – NSCC’s Faculty Professional Development eNewsletter (4/24/2017)

Welcome to iDevelop, a weekly eNewsletter providing faculty with information about professional development opportunities at NSCC. The intent of this eNewsletter is to spotlight the various professional development events for faculty in one convenient location as well as share best practices, resources and tips related to the teaching practice. iDevelop is being brought to you by the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation (CTLI).

20 Minute Online Professional Development
The Monday Morning Mentor series will be available over the spring semester to bring you professional development in twenty minute snippets. The topic for the week of April 24th is How Do I Adapt an Online Faculty Peer Review Tool? The presentation is available Monday at 10:00am and is accessible through Sunday of that week. Other Professional Development Opportunities

  • North Shore Community College’s 2017 Visiting Writer. Jay Atkinson, a local best-selling non-fiction writer, short story writer, novelist, and journalist will be reading from a variety of his works, including Massacre on the Merrimack. The readings will take place on Tuesday, April 25th at 9:30am and 11:00am in the Lynn Campus Gym. More information is available at
  • Annual Law Day Lecture. This year’s Law Day topic is The Fourteenth Amendment and Immigration. The keynote speaker is Elena Noureddine, Esq., a staff attorney with the Political Asylum/Immigration Representation Project (PAIR). The lecture will be held on Thursday, April 27th from 7:30am to 9:00am in the Lynn Campus Cafeteria and will be teleconferenced to the Danvers Campus Math & Science Building, DS119.   • Hatikvah Officers to Campus. In honor of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Memorial Day), NSCC’s Department of Interdisciplinary Studies welcome Hatikvah Officers to campus on Thursday, April 27th from 12:30pm to 1:45 in LE 203 on the Lynn Campus. The officers will share stories about their experiences and speak openly about the challenges they sometimes face. These dedicated young leaders will touch on themes of leadership and moral decision making. In addition, they will share their personal connections to the Holocaust and its impact on their values today. Feel free to bring your class. Refreshments will be served. The 2017 issue of The Edge (the 26th edition of the Technology Across the Curriculum (TAC) Newsletter) is now available at: In this issue, you will hear about the TAC projects of 32 faculty in their own words. Also in this issue, Andrea Milligan, Director of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation, has contributed two articles, one on hybrid courses at NSCC and another that describes two new tools within Blackboard Learn to record attendance and manage several course tools. Finally, in this issue, there is an article on a STEM online course development project for a new certificate program.
