Welcome to iDevelop, a weekly eNewsletter providing faculty with information about professional development opportunities at NSCC. The intent of this eNewsletter is to spotlight the various professional development events for faculty in one convenient location as well as share best practices, resources and tips related to the teaching practice. iDevelop is being brought to you by the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation.

20 Minute Online Professional Development
This is the last of the sessions for the spring Monday Morning Mentor series (professional development in twenty minute snippets.)  The topic for the week of May 13th is How Can I Plan (or Revise) My Courses More Efficiently? The presentation is available Monday at 10:00am and is accessible through Sunday of that week. Other Professional Development Opportunities 
  • RSVP for 9th Annual NSCC Faculty Technology Summer Institute. In June, the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation (CTLI) will be holding a two-day Faculty Technology Summer Institute. The Summer Institute's theme is "Making Connections" and the sessions for the two days will focus on faculty professional development around exploring Blackboard Learn as well as new instructional technologies and cool apps to establish connections with the goal of enhancing instructor to student interactions, student to student interactions, and student to content interactions. The Summer Institute will take place on Wednesday, June 5th and Thursday, June 6th from 9:00am to 3:30pm in Danvers. Space is limited to 30 faculty and is first come first served so please RSVP by Friday, May 24th using the link below. NSCC Faculty who attend the Summer Institute will receive a small stipend.   • Fifth Annual Conference on Civic Learning and Engagement. DHE’s Fifth Annual Conference on Civic Learning and Engagement, entitled Making Democracy Work: Civic Learning and Civic Engagement in Higher Education, will be held at Fitchburg State University from 8:15am to 3:00 pm on Tuesday, May 28th. “Democracy has to be born anew every generation,” said John Dewey just over 100 years ago, “and education is its midwife.” Given the competing priorities that pull at each of our institutions, how do we claim civic education as a core part of our academic mission? How do we build the learning opportunities—in our classrooms and in our communities—that enable students to develop the knowledge, the skills, and the dispositions and motivations they need to participate effectively in civic life? This conference offers faculty and staff from colleges and universities across southern New England the opportunity to explore with peers how we can cultivate in our students the habits of democracy. The conference will feature: a continental breakfast; a keynote address by Caryn McTighe Musil, Senior Director of Civic Learning and Democracy Initiatives, Association of American Colleges and Universities; an opportunity for small group discussion of issues raised in the opening address with participants from the same institutional type (community colleges or four-year institutions); a networking lunch; and two sets of breakout sessions. Register as soon as you can, because space will be limited. The conference fee is waived for participants from Massachusetts public colleges and universities.   • Equity and Inclusion Conference. The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts is convening a conference on Equity and Inclusion to be held on their campus in the Berkshires: Catalyzing 21st Century Discourse and Engagement on Race.
